THE BOSPHORUS PENTHOUSE

The Bosphorus Penthouse is a renovation within a historic waterfront mansion on the Bosphorus, conceived to host contemporary life without erasing the building’s memory. The central challenge was to work under conservation permissions, keep the exterior intact, and reshape the plan into something fluid, functional, and lived-in.

NOM preserved and reinforced the structural system, then simplified the interior organization so fragmented rooms became a connected, multi-purpose living sequence. The most decisive move was to pull back the boundary between the living room and the terrace, drawing the Bosphorus view inward and turning the main space into a breathable social core. The design balances two moods: the front façade carries the city’s movement and sociability, while the rear terraces and gardens offer a quieter retreat. The transition to private zones is treated as a gallery-like passage where art and light guide the journey - less a corridor, more an unfolding of scenes.

The result is an “İstanbul story” told through light, view, and spatial continuity, combining emotional resonance with architectural clarity.
